Swapan Bhandary

Swapan Bhandary’s work takes a whimsical look at the world, narrating stories of life and the people who live it. Influenced by Picasso, and the skill and storytelling inherent in Indian miniature paintings, he works with vibrant colors and stylized strokes to capture the joyous spirit of his subjects. Depicting women empowerment, his compositions are based on the dreams and aspirations of the matriarch. Born in West Bengal, Swapanji studied fine arts from Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan in 1984 under the tutelage of K.G. Subramanyan. He has done 8 Solo shows & 25 Group shows at Jehangir Art Gallery (Mumbai), Triveni Art Gallery (New Delhi), CIMA Art Gallery, (Kolkata), Reflection Gallery (Hong Kong), M.K. Birla Millennium Art Gallery, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (London, UK); Common Ground Art Gallery (Canada); Indian Art Show, Nehru Centre (London, UK); Indian contemporary Art Show, Harley Street (London, UK). His works have been published extensively and reside in private and museum collectionsin Indiaat the National Gallery of Modern Art, Lalit Kala Academy, Bharat Bhavan, ITC Maurya Sheraton. He lives and works in New Delhi.
